The first quadrille challenge of 2024 – a poem of precisely 44 words, this time including lake, lacuna or lagoon is set by the lovely Melissa Lemay tonight as she tends the virtual Poets Pub at dVerse. Mine’s a recycled glass of clear blue meltwater from a glacier, Melissa, as I get ready to sleep here in the UK, at least five hours ahead of you as the Earth turns.
whatever way i sound La Ke
it cometh rolling back-to-Me
as splashes of inanity:
i cannot get beyond the play
of LAbrum first, and then the KE
of Kathryn (followed by the crowned
Elizabeth, whose royal frown
and corgied smile regaled the papers
while i was still in pinned diapers).

She was beautiful. I’d love some glacier water. Sleep well.😴

Kathy, this is a clever exploration of sound and identity. The interplay between “La Ke,” “LAbrum,” and “KE of Kathryn” adds a delightful rhythm, and the nod to Queen Elizabeth’s presence brings a historical touch… lovely!

Thank you David for this accurate critique (is that the right word?) of what I was attempting to convey without LAbouring it. My resolution is (again) to live, write and love easefully. Yikes, I need to updatae my clunky website too … it takes me far longer to post a blog than to write the content…

She seemed to be there forever…

Yes, her reign spanned my entire life as I was born in the interval between her Accession to the UK Throne in 1952 and her Coronation in 1953. I am a true Elizabethan.

Just delightful, Kathy, the playful interplay of sounds and meanings. This: “Elizabeth, whose royal frown/and corgied smile” made me laugh outright!

You’d get a royal frown if she was still arroun’!
Love how you hid or rather played with the water of the LAKE, Kathy

I like the play on words. The world is not the same without her–I feel there was a definite shift, even here in the States. (K)

Bittersweet affection. She represents one side of the 1950s for me – there are others!
Good to hear your voice, Punam. I hope you are very well x
