The first quadrille challenge of 2024 – a poem of precisely 44 words, this time including lake, lacuna or lagoon is set by the lovely Melissa Lemay tonight as she tends the virtual Poets Pub at dVerse. Mine’s a recycled glass of clear blue meltwater from a glacier, Melissa, as I get ready to sleep here in the UK, at least five hours ahead of you as the Earth turns.

whatever way i sound La Ke

it cometh rolling back-to-Me
as splashes of inanity:
i cannot get beyond the play
of LAbrum first, and then the KE
of Kathryn (followed by the crowned
Elizabeth, whose royal frown
and corgied smile regaled the papers
while i was still in pinned diapers).
