Today’s challenge – from sarahsouthwest at dVerse poets pub – was to write a quadrille (44 words exactly) including the word sleep or a variant thereof.

ravenous for naps

such joy to sleep with you upon your chest

and feel your hand curved soft upon my breast

before subjected to the surgeon’s blade,

………………. Beacon torch by which I’m laid

I love you now beyond the autoclave

especially when we dare to misbehave.

I trust that I might whisper it to myself as I prepare to go under anaesthetic in four weeks’ time.
